Q
. How long have you been coaching at ‘The Posh’?
JM
. 11 years
Q
. What is it like working with a character like, manager Barry Fry week in week out?
JM
. Very lively, entertaining and unpredictable
Q
. You came out to
Brisbane
to do some coaching with the
Premier
Soccer
Academy
in 2000. What did you make of the Soccer system and
Australia
in general?
JM
.
Australia
was brilliant; I enjoyed the outdoor culture and would move there tomorrow if the football were as respected as it is in
England
. The national team is getting stronger each year, which is great for
Australia
and its people and will hopefully generate higher participation.
Q
. The Posh has always played a big part in the PSA UK tours, you have been kind enough to put on coaching sessions for our players and we have played against the Posh several times including a very credible 2-2 draw the season you guys had a great run in the FA youth cup. What do you think of the general standard of players that have toured in the past 5 seasons?
JM
. The general standard has been very high both on and off the pitch and the players attitudes have been first class. This is very important as good players will only become great players if they have a good attitude to learn. Some clubs take years to produce one professional player and PSA now have two in the
UK
, which speaks volumes for the quality of player within the PSA set up.
Q
. You have picked up 2 PSA players over the past 5 years, what are the first 4 things you look for in a player?
JM
. Technique, Attitude, Personality and Speed.
Q
. Shane Huke who you picked up from the PSA 2 seasons ago is currently playing in your reserve side how’s he going, any sign of him making his first team debut this season?
JM
. Shane has been doing very well and when the manager thins his squad a bit, I am sure if given a chance he will do very well.
Q
. You have had 2 spells as the first team caretaker coach. How dose it differ from coaching the reserves?
JM
.Reserves is developmental, where as the 1st team is points orientated.
Q
. Who is the coach you most admire and why?
JM. The best coaches I have been lucky enough to meet and watch work are Brian Kerr, Peter Taylor and Don Howe. All 3 are very enthusiastic, professional, open minded, successful and coach with a smile.
Q. Finally, you are a life long West Ham United Fan, how dose it feel now that the hammers have been eaten alive by Millwall in there last 3 meetings? Take your time with this one!
JM.
YOU where that frightened by the hammers, YOU moved thousands of miles away and can now only give it the large via e mail.
The
Premier
Soccer
Academy
would like to thank John Morling for all the time and effort he has put into our tours over the past 5 years, his knowledge and enthusiasm has rubbed off on all who have toured with the PSA.
