Just over 6 years ago PSA Coach Jeff Haydon took a group of Australian based players to Stuttgart Germany for an 8 day coaching clinic at the "Katenwein International football school", In that short visit he forged a solid working relationship with director & Coach Juergen Kantenwein & has since worked on a regular basis as one of their English speaking coaches. The International school is based in Stuttgart. It has a 16 bed boarding house that houses players from all over the world all year round.
After spending a week working at the school early August, Jeff returned with 26 of the International students to give them a taste of English Football & a taste of what PSA has to offer in terms of football education.
The group was exceptional in quality, 6 players from VFB Stuttgart academy were given permission to join the tour & certainly created interest from the clubs they visited. In the week the players attended the Community shield final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, where they watched Chelsea play Arsenal. Day 2 saw them train with former Spurs fullback & now Billericay Town Manager Justin Edinburgh along with ex Southend United Player Matt Jones.
The following day the boys had a taste of Premiership hospitality with a training session at Westham Community centre followed by a visit to the ground & a behind the scenes tour of Westham United. The museum caused some debate & was the focus for the English lesson later that afternoon when the players viewed the famous statue of Bobby Moore holding the world cup aloft after beating Germany 4-2 back in 1966, rumour has it that the English lesson for the German boys that afternoon was "The ball was over the Line".
Later that evening the group watched Westham Reserves play Arsenal at Barnet before they headed off to Manchester. Oldham Athletic were there first & only game of the trip, the International school running out convincing winners in both age groups. 3 - 2 for the U/14s & 8 - 3 for the U/18s. Oldham & as with many of the clubs visited showed great interest in the Stuttgart players & would have taken at least 3 of the players unconditionally such was the quality.
The Boys finished the week with a visited to Manchester United where they toured the stadium, museum & Mega store, They Observed a Champions league match at Old Trafford then headed south to London where they visited Highbury before heading back across the channel.
The International school has players attending from USA, Australia, Romania, Germany & Kuwait.
We will be catching up with Jeff in the near future to hear of his success working at Florida Gulf University, USA.
